Presentation:

I am interested in ants and everything that concerns their world. Routine field surveys at the Iberian Peninsula, the Balearic Islands, Maghreb and the Macaronesia (Azores, Canary Islands, Cape Verde, and Madeira) form the base on which I have been building everything else.

My main approach is accurately captured by the following quote: “…why does a biologist do research at all? To discover, of course” (Wilson, E.O.1989. The coming pluralization of biology and the stewardship of systematics. BioScience,39:242-245) My research encompasses topics in invasive and exotic ant species biology and ecology, models of species coexistence, and community dynamics of canopy arthropods in organic citrus groves. Other topics include: ant-plant interactions (myrmecochory, granivory, aphid-tending). In addition, works about ecto- and endoparasites of ants appear irregularly as offshoots of research.

Field research concerns the spread of the invasive garden ant, Lasius neglectus, and several interactions it engages on with other community components.
